BEGASO
Begaso is a family-owned winery in Sabue, a village in eastern Georgia’s Kakheti region, at the foot of the Greater Caucasus Mountains. Located on the northern bank of the Alazani River, within the Kindzmarauli microzone, the estate is run by Erekle Bejitashvili, a young winemaker with a background in viticulture, alongside his family.
The family began planting vineyards in 2015 and now cultivates approximately 22 hectares, growing indigenous Georgian varieties including Saperavi, Kisi, Khikhvi, Mtsvane, Rkatsiteli and Rkatsiteli Rosé. The vineyards are farmed organically, and the family is working toward certification.
All winemaking takes place in the family's cellar, which houses 20 traditional clay qvevri, each holding between 1,000 and 1,500 liters. Buried in the ground, these vessels are used for both fermentation and aging. All wines ferment spontaneously with indigenous yeasts, with minimal sulfur additions. The family's approach brings together careful organic farming and traditional Kakhetian winemaking, with a focus on expressing the character of their native grapes and the vineyards of Sabue.
